There is no cost to consumers. Homeowners have to use a qualified contractor listed on BuildersTrust web site. If the contractor is not yet registered, all he or she needs to do is belong to one of the qualified organizations and register on BuildersTrust web site. It's just that simple.
Contractors budget 1-3% for annual loses. If they join BuildersTrust, they pay only 1% per contract and are GUARANTEED PAYOUTS! No losses through homeowner defaults. No chasing payments. That is why there is no cost to homeowners.
Consider: For a $30,000 kitchen remodel, the fee to GUARANTEE the project is only $300.
